Especially at that hour. Take up a safe position and call the police and say someone is banging on your door. No sense in opening the door even if you are armed, nothing good can come of it. Maybe it is a robber and you get in a gun fight, maybe it is the state and they kill you, either way, nothing to gain by answering the door when it isn’t someone you are expecting.
